Ghost Town Labs

In continuing with my Q & A blogs about the ‘Ghost Town’ series of novels, this blog will focus on the fictional company in the series, Ghost Town Labs. Have you even seen a company that just seems to do what it wants, doesn’t care at all for the rules, and somehow, just pushes others around? That’s the inspiration that I used for Ghost Town Labs.

In creating the ‘Ghost Town’ series I saw the need for a giant, faceless company that dominated everyone’s lives yet was in the background, working in the shadows. It’s the organization that’s everywhere yet no one is certain who works for it. It’s the company that people say doesn’t exist. The company that is so tied into the government, the only people that they answer too don’t want to be caught asking them questions.

In creating Ghost Town Labs I wanted to create a company that was uniquely my own. I researched various entities that throughout history have been like shadow organizations or gotten away with crimes. I found it stunning how one company could violate many of the established rules while another company would find itself shut down, its management and owners in jail, for breaking just one rule. When looking deeper, it seems to depend on who the backers of the company is, how much they donate, as to what they can get away with.

Ghost Town Labs was originally a shadow government entity, being that it was set up and ran by the government, but there was a layer of separation so that no one in the government would be liable for what the company did. They owned patents and had licenses agreements which brought in untold amounts of money to fund the weapons research. With an unlimited budget and no one caring about their methods, only results, Ghost Town Labs was able to develop into a massive powerhouse that not even the government can stop anymore.

With a leader like Doctor Victor Tesla, the government allowed Ghost Town Labs to run itself, not having an oversight board, which they soon learned was a giant mistake. Doctor Tesla took the company private, took the company for himself and his revenge. By the time the government realized what was happening, it was too late, Victor and the company were beyond their reach.

With even less oversight, and no one to answer to, Victor used Ghost Town Labs to its full ability, bringing forth the deluge that was rained down on Whiterock. Doctor Tesla knew that by the time the government realized what was going on, it would be too late to stop him. Ghost Town Labs couldn’t be touched and there wasn’t a force within the government that could stand in his way.

Ghost Town Labs is the company that does what it wants, when it wants, answering to no one. Ghost Town Labs in the company that may or may not exist, it’s a shadow that disappears when you try to see it. Ghost Town Labs is the manifestation of evil brought about by Doctor Victor Tesla.
