Mysterious Tunnels
An unguarded opening, black, no light penetrating the depths, gives way to a group of explorers who hope to have the experience of a lifetime in search of fame and riches. Heavy with equipment and supplies, the explorers bid farewell to the sun and descend into the unknown and beyond. That could be a line from any of the popular literature or cinema that has documented man’s obsession with the mysterious hidden tunnels that dot the Earth. From Jules Verne to modern Hardy Boys and R.L. Stine, horror and mystery have always gone to the tunnel as a place where mystery abounds. But do these fictitious tunnels have a basis in reality? Their stories sure do. Whether those stories are to be believed is up to the reader, but the legends of the tunnels persist no matter what skeptics try to say.

Hoia Baciu Forest
Set near the proximity of Cluj-Napoca near the northern border of Romania, the local superstition is that the forest is cursed and has become the home of the devil. Debate in paranormal circles rage as if the forest should be classified as haunted, UFO grounds, or a dimensional portal not unlike the Bermuda Triangle. All three activities, from ghosts and apparitions appearing, UFO sightings, and disappearances and unexplained missing time have occurred within the confines of the Hoia Baciu Forest. SS Ourang Medan
In June of 1947, a distress signal in the Strait of Malacca came from the Dutch Merchant Ship, the SS Ourang Medan. The Morse code message went as follows: “…we float. All officers including the Captain, dead in chartroom and on the bridge. Probably whole crew dead…” Following a confused series of dots and dashes, two chilling words were understood, “I die.” There was nothing more. No more communications with the doomed ship.

Doppelgangers
Throughout history there’ve been tales of people seeing their double, an identical twin to themselves, a doppelganger, German for double walker. These phantom twins are sometimes thought to be bad omens, signifying that the person seeing them is going to die, or someone close to them will meet their end. At times these twins can bring messages of peace and hope, others bring news of sorrow and destruction. In many cultures around the world there are legends of double walkers, some defined at bilocation, where a person willingly or spontaneously projects a double, known as a ‘wraith’; other times the doppelganger is an entity that causes confusion, as a person is seen in two places at once. With no shortage of stories of the doppelganger, one has to wonder what forces allow a person to be two places at the same time.
