A Summer Baseball Game
With the summer quickly slipping away from us, I look at the calendar and realize that this upcoming weekend is my local community’s county fair. That even always marks the end of summer for our area as schools start the week after and all the ‘summer’ events are finished up.
This summer has been a rush for me, with new events mixed in with our routines and I’ve made a lot of headway on some new writing projects. But one thing that I’m glad I got to do was catch a baseball game.
I’m not a huge sports fan by any means but I do enjoy a good game occasionally. I had a work meeting in the Twin Cities and the group that was hosting the meeting took the group of about fifty people to a Minnesota Twins game. Held at Target Field, the newer open-air stadium on the edge of downtown Minneapolis, the Twins put on a great Friday afternoon game, winning 4-2. The weather was perfect, and the stadium was filled to about 75% capacity with an energetic crowd. I did spend more time talking with other people from the meeting than watching the game, but it was a great time on a sunny Friday afternoon.

While at the stadium, I noticed how quickly the stats from a pitch or a hit would be put on the screens. I noticed how many high definition cameras and televisions were in the stadium. A lot of things that would have been science fiction a couple decades ago. It got me thinking, when we think of science fiction, we always think of spaceships and aliens and technology indistinguishable from magic, but what will our sports look like, not only in science fiction, but in the future? It’s an interesting thought and I did some research into and, while our sports pastimes may evolve and adapt, they’ll always be around. Next up is a fun research piece on what sports will look like in our sci-fi future. Thank you.
